II Seminar on Quantum Optics, 1988

The Minsk-Moscow-St. Petersburg "scientific triangle" in the organization of SQO-l became more clearly defined in carrying-out the Second All-Union Seminar on Quantum Optics (SQO-ll) held from April 26 to 28, 1988 in the Raubichi Olympic Center. Scientists of Moscow State University (MSU) (A.S. Chirkin, A.V. Belinskii, B.A. Grishanin, V.V. Shuvalov, and V.M. Pletnikova) took active part in the seminar. The SQO-II program was characterized by a large number of reports devoted to the properties of squeezed states generated in parametric conversion. The report by S.A. Akhmanov, A.V. Belinskii, and A.S. Chirkin contained discussions of the problem of quantum and classical squeezing. In the report by S.Ya. Kilin, anomalous correlators were discussed, and a method for the detection of multimode field squeezing that was different from optical balance homodyning was proposed. The quantum theory of continuous variations in photodetection was also presented here. A.N. Oraevskii (FIAN) considered a theory of a generator of squeezed states with fluctuating pumping. In the report by A.S. Piskarskas and A.Yu. Stabinis (Kyiv University), experimental results on spatial-temporal squeezing of multimode fields in parametric amplifiers and oscillators were presented. The reports by Yu.M. Golubev were devoted to the problems of transformation ofnonclassical states in coherent amplification. I.V. Sokolov and M.I. Kolobov presented a theory of calculation of observables in the quantum problem of propagation of radiation and a study of intensity fluctuations in parametric forward scattering. A number of the special features of squeezed states generated in optical bistability of resonance fluorescence and squeezed states oftranslational variables of an atom were presented in the reports by E.I. Aliskanderov (Joint Institute of Nuclear Research, JINR), A.I. Zhiliba (IOA SD AS USSR), G.I. Surdutovich (Novosibirsk State University, NSU), E.I. Gordov, G.A. Koganov, and A.M. Khazanov (IOA SD AS USSR). A.S. Troshin presented a review of methods for generating sub-Poissonian light. The problem of studying an equilibrium gas medium by the methods of spectroscopy of intensity fluctuations with the use of squeezed light was considered by D.V. Kupriyanov and I.M. Sokolov and by L.I. Plimak and Yu.M. Golubev.

Questions of dynamical chaos in the interaction of Rydberg atoms with a microwave field were the subject of the report by D.L. Shepelyanskii (Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, INP SD AS USSR). The reports by S.I. Turovets and Yu.A. Logvin (IP BAS) were devoted to dynamical chaos in laser systems.

The problem of dephasing perturbations in strong fields for collisional relaxation, relaxation of semiconductors, and relaxation of impurity centers in solids was presented in the reports by P.A. Apanasevich, S.Ya. Kilin, and A.P Nizovtsev (IP BAS), B.A. Grishanin (MSU), V.V.Shuvalov and V.M.Pletnikova (MSU), TSh. Abesadze (Tbilisi University), E.G. Pestov, and A.V. Vinogradov (FIAN). Exact solutions for the excitation of multilevel molecular systems for the case of pulsed excitation were presented, by V.A. Savva (IP BAS). The theory of quantum fluctuations of superfluorescence with diffraction effects taken into account was considered in the report by E.D.Trifonov et al. (LSPI).

Some of the reports presented at SQO-II were published in Optika i Spektroskopiya (Optics and Spectroscopy). 1989. vol. 66, no. 4.
